Course Description

CPCS Appointed Person Training Courses are designed for those planning, coordinating, and executing all lifting operations in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive. Pass theory and practical testing to earn a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

Learning Outcomes

Understand the main health & safety laws and lifting regulations
Know the roles and responsibilities of everyone involved in lifting operations
Identify different types of lifting equipment and when to use them
Understand crane capabilities, limitations, and safety devices
Select the correct lifting accessories and equipment for each lift
Calculate load weights, sling angles, lifting capacities, and ground pressures
Understand safe slinging methods and load balance/centre of gravity
Read and use lift plans, load charts, and manufacturer information
Identify site hazards such as underground services, overhead obstacles, and poor ground conditions
Plan safe lifting operations including access routes and exclusion zones
Prepare risk assessments, method statements, and lift plans
Understand how weather and environmental conditions affect lifting operations
Follow safe procedures for lifting people and complex lifts

You must have passed the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test within the last 2 years.

Certification

Upon successful completion, you will get a CPCS Red Card, valid for 2 years.

Appointed Person training is ideal for beginners. The course covers all the basics in theory and practical training.

What PPE do I need?

Due to the nature of this course, it does not require any personal protective equipment.

What happens if I fail?

If you do not achieve the theory or practical test, we will do our best to re-book at a reduced rate.

How long does the course take?

Appointed Person training takes 5 days. This includes theory and practical training and testing.

How long is the CPCS card valid?

The CPCS Red Card is valid for 2 years. Once this expires, you can choose to upgrade to a CPCS Blue Card, valid 5 years.

How hard is the appointed person course?

The CPCS Appointed Person Course is not designed to be easy. However, our 5-day novice course is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to pass.

How much does an appointed person earn?

Appointed Persons earn an average of £24K – £36K per year, according to Glassdoor.

What qualifications do you need to be an appointed person?

CPCS Red Cards are a great way to to show employers that you have the skills and knowledge required to do the job. This can be earned through completion of our appointed person courses.

What nvq level is an appointed person?

To upgrade your CPCS card from Red to Blue you will need to complete the Level 5 NVQ for appointed person.
