Advance your construction career with an NVQ Level 5 qualification. Demonstrate your skills as an experienced Appointed Person for lifting operations.
Qualifications take place at your worksite and gather a portfolio of evidence to prove your competence. This can be used to earn a CPCS Blue Card for Appointed Person.
There are no formal entry requirements for NVQ Level 5 qualifications. However, we suggest that you have at least 6 months of experience before enrolling.
NVQ Level 5 qualifications can take up to 6 months to complete. This includes collecting evidence, writing the portfolio, and processing the certification.
During your qualification, our assessor will visit you at work to collect the following evidence:
To upgrade your card from CPCS Red to Blue, you must:
• Hold an in-date CPCS Red Card
• Achieve the relevant NVQ Level 2
• Pass the relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test
The CPCS Blue Card lasts for 5 years from the date of issue.
Appointed Persons will need to complete the Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Controlling lifting Operations (Planning Lifting)

The NVQ Level 5 requires one of our assessors to visit your current worksite. During this, they will guide you through:
• Induction
• Observations
• Questions
• Witness testimonial
• Personal discussion
• Evidence gathering
Based on these activities, you will be graded as ‘Competent’ or ‘Not Yet Competent’. This translates to either a pass or fail.
The CSCS Skilled Worker Card evidences that individuals have the relevant skills, training, and experience to perform a specific construction-related role.
To be eligible for the CSCS Skilled Worker Card, you must pass the:
• Relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test
• Relevant NVQ Level 2
The CSCS Skilled Worker Card lasts 5 years from the date of issue.
