Streetworks courses are mandatory under The New Roads and Street Works Act. This includes operatives and supervisors working on public roads and highways.
The full course is designed for operatives and supervisors who have never completed a course. The re-assessment course is designed for operatives and supervisors looking to renew an existing streetworks card.
Streetwork Operatives are those physically completing the work, while Streetworks Supervisors are those overseeing it. Being a qualified Supervisor does not automatically qualify you to complete operative work. Therefore, if you complete both roles, you will need to complete both courses.
Upon successful course completion, you will receive your CABWI certificates and SWQR card. These are valid for 5 years and renewed through a re-assessment course. We suggest renewing your card 6 – 12 months before it expires, to avoid losing it.
LA – Location and avoidance of underground apparatus.
O1 – Signing, lighting and guarding.
O2 – Excavation in the highway.
O3 – Reinstatement and compaction of backfill materials.
O4 – Reinstatement of sub-base and road base in non-bituminous materials.
O5 – Reinstatement in cold-lay bituminous materials.
O6 – Reinstatement in hot-lay bituminous materials.
O7 – Reinstatement of concrete slabs.
O8 – Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways.
LA – Location and avoidance of underground apparatus.
S1 – Monitoring signing, lighting and guarding.
S2 – Monitoring excavation in the highway.
S3 – Monitoring reinstatement and compaction of backfill materials.
S4 – Monitoring reinstatement of sub-base and road base in non-bituminous materials.
S5 – Monitoring reinstatement in bituminous materials.
S6 – Monitoring reinstatement of concrete slabs.
S7 – Monitoring reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways.
Please choose the relevant streetworks course for your role. Those performing both operative and supervisor roles must hold both operative and supervisor cards. Supervisor cards do not qualify the holder to work as an operative, and vice versa.
Streetworks Operative Cards are awarded on completion of a full streetworks course for operatives.
Cards are valid for 5 years. You can renew this card by completing a re-assessment course for operatives.

Streetworks qualifications are mandatory for anyone completing or supervising work carried out on public roads. These come in the form of SWQR cards, which are the only accepted qualification for road workers.
Streetworks courses range from £195+VAT to £795+VAT. This will depend on which course you choose.
The full streetworks course takes 5 days to complete, with re-assessments taking 2 days and single units taking just 1 day.
Due to the practical nature of streetworks courses, they must be completed in-person at an accredited test centre. This includes all courses, including re-assessments.
We distribute cards directly to those who booked the course. For private individuals, this would be your home address. For those booked by an employer, this would be your employers head office. For any queries, contact us on 01189 790 030.
