What is NRSWA?

NRSWA stands for The New Roads and Street Works Act. This requires anyone operating or supervising work on public roads to hold a streetworks card in the relevant categories.

It also requires all street works to be overseen by someone with a supervisor street works card.

Supervisors don’t need to be on-site at all times and can supervise more than one set of Street Works at a time.

LA – Location and avoidance of underground apparatus
S1 – Monitoring signing, lighting and guarding
S2 – Monitoring excavation in the highway

S5 – Monitoring reinstatement of bituminous materials

Streetworks Cards

Please choose the relevant streetworks course for your role. Those performing both operative and supervisor roles must hold both operative and supervisor cards. Supervisor cards do not qualify the holder to work as an operative, and vice versa.

Operative Card

Streetworks Operative Cards are awarded on completion of a full streetworks course for operatives.

Cards are valid for 5 years. You can renew this card by completing a re-assessment course for operatives.

Supervisor Card

Streetworks Supervisor Cards are awarded on completion of a full streetworks course for supervisors.

Cards are valid for 5 years. You can renew this card by completing a re-assessment course for supervisors.

Combined Operative and Supervisor Card

Streetworks Supervisor Cards are awarded on completion of a full streetworks course for both operatives and supervisors.

Cards are valid for 5 years. You can renew this card by completing a re-assessment course for both operatives and supervisors.

What is a streetworks qualification?

Streetworks qualifications are mandatory for anyone completing or supervising work carried out on public roads. These come in the form of SWQR cards, which are the only accepted qualification for road workers.

How much does a streetworks course cost?

Streetworks courses range from £195+VAT to £795+VAT. This will depend on which course you choose.

How long does a streetworks course take?

The full streetworks course takes 5 days to complete, with re-assessments taking 2 days and single units taking just 1 day.

Can you do a streetworks course online?

Due to the practical nature of streetworks courses, they must be completed in-person at an accredited test centre. This includes all courses, including re-assessments.

Where will my card be sent?

We distribute cards directly to those who booked the course. For private individuals, this would be your home address. For those booked by an employer, this would be your employers head office. For any queries, contact us on 01189 790 030.

When does my card expire?

Streetworks cards are valid for 5 years. Sign up for renewal reminders to receive alerts when your card is due to expire.
