Course Description

CPCS Slinger Signaller Courses equip you with the skills and knowledge to work with crane operators. This includes attaching loads and guiding movement using hand signals.

This course spans 4 days and includes a combination of classroom and hands-on training. Pass your theory and practical tests to achieve a CPCS Red Card.

Learning Objectives

Understand the roles and responsibilities of a slinger signaller
Name and explain the purpose of different lifting accessories
Undertake pre-use checks and identify non-serviceable items
Confirm methods of communication with the operator
Identify centres of gravity and establish weight of loads
Prepare the area of operation and maintain exclusion zones
Choose the relevant lifting accessory for a given load
Secure and detach loads using the relevant lifting accessories
Ensure load balance, security and integrity
Guide and control the movement of loads to different locations
Provide directions where the operator cannot observe full visibility
Control loads during pick and carry duties
Carry out all out-of-service and securing procedures

Activity Instructions

Check all lifting equipment for function and serviceability.

Identify whether lifting equipment certification meets regulations.

Establish the weight and features of each load prior to lifting.

Establish communication with the operator.

Select the relevant lifting accessories for the loads to be lifted.

Ensure and maintain an exclusion zone around the lifting operation.

Attach lifting accessories and prepare loads for lifting.

Guide lifting and slewing. Guide landing to a designated place.

Guide the load positioning to a radius suitable for travel.

Guide the load over a given route. Guiding left and right turns.

Guide lifts in an area that is out of sight of the operator.

Detach accessories. Collect and store all lifting accessories.
