Learning Outcomes

Understand the responsibilities of a crawler crane operator and comply with legislation and manufacturer guidance
Identify the main components, controls, safety systems, and operating principles of a crawler crane
Carry out pre-use inspections, routine maintenance checks, and accurately report defects
Prepare the crawler crane for operation, including safe set-up, configuration, and shutdown procedures
Understand crane stability, lifting capacities, and factors that affect safe lifting operations
Plan and carry out lifting operations using appropriate procedures, including correct positioning and communication
Operate the crane safely while travelling, manoeuvring, and positioning loads in a variety of site conditions
Recognise and manage workplace hazards, including ground conditions, overhead services, and exclusion zones
Select and use appropriate lifting accessories, understanding their limitations and safe working practices
Secure the crane safely after operations and follow correct procedures for dismantling, loading, and transportation

Novice crawler crane training takes 5 days. This includes theory and practical training and testing.

How long is the CPCS card valid?

The CPCS Red Card is valid for 2 years. Once this expires, you can choose to upgrade to a CPCS Blue Card, valid 5 years.

How to become a crane operator in the UK with no experience?
