Frequently Asked Questions

NRSWA stands for the New Roads and Street Works Act. This legislation was introduced to ensure that street work completed across England, Scotland, and Wales is safe and efficient.

Streetworks qualifications are mandatory for anyone completing or supervising work carried out on public roads. These come in the form of SWQR cards, which are the only accepted qualification for road workers.

The full streetworks course takes 5 days to complete, with re-assessments taking 2 days and single units taking just 1 day.

Streetworks supervisor courses start at 8am. However, we suggest arriving at least 15 minutes beforehand.

No. You can complete as many or as few optional units as you need. However, you will need to complete the mandatory units, which are LA and O1.

Street Works cards last for five years, after which they must be renewed.

A person cannot continue to work as a qualified operative or supervisor where certificates have expired.

There is no grace period, and individuals must ensure that their certificates remain current.

Due to the practical nature of streetworks courses, they must be completed in-person at an accredited test centre. This includes all courses, including re-assessments.

Novice courses are 5-day courses, designed for those looking to gain their Street Works qualifications for the first time.

Reassessment courses are 2-day courses, designed for those renewing their Street Works card.

Street Works card can be renewed by completing a 2-day reassessment course.

The Street Works Supervisor qualification does not qualify the holder to work as an operative.

Both operative and supervisor qualifications are necessary to work as either or both.

We distribute cards directly to those who booked the course. For private individuals, this would be your home address. For those booked by an employer, this would be your employers head office. For any queries, contact us on 01189 790 030.

Streetworks cards are valid for 5 years. Sign up for renewal reminders to receive alerts when your card is due to expire.
