CPCS Skid Steer Training Courses are designed for novice and experienced operators wanting to operate skid steers on construction sites. Pass theory and practical testing to earn a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

Learning Outcomes

Understand the responsibilities of a skid steer loader operator and comply with relevant health and safety legislation
Identify the main components, controls, safety features, and operating capabilities of a skid steer loader
Carry out pre-use inspections, routine maintenance checks, and correctly report defects
Prepare the machine safely for work, including selecting, attaching, and removing appropriate attachments
Travel and manoeuvre the skid steer loader safely across different ground conditions and within confined working areas
Carry out loading, excavation, stockpiling, grading, and material-handling tasks safely and efficiently
Maintain machine stability and control when operating with different loads and attachments
Recognise workplace hazards and apply suitable control measures
Safely load and unload the machine for transportation, following appropriate procedures
Carry out safe shutdown, parking, isolation, and securing procedures at the end of operations

You must have passed the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test within the last 2 years.

Certification

Upon successful completion, you will receive a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

This course requires the following personal protective equipment:

High visibility jacket
Safety boots
Hard hat

What happens if I fail?

If you do not achieve the theory or practical test, we will do our best to re-book at a reduced rate.

How long does the course take?

Novice skid steer training takes 3 days. This includes theory and practical training and testing.

How long is the CPCS card valid?

The CPCS Red Card is valid for 2 years. Once this expires, you can choose to upgrade to a CPCS Blue Card, valid 5 years.

Do you need training to operate a skid steer?

CPCS training can significantly increase your career opportunities. Most UK construction sites require operators to hold formal qualifications like the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.
