CPCS 180 Excavator Training Courses are designed for novice and experienced operators wanting to operate 180 excavators on construction sites. Pass theory and practical testing to earn a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

Understand the responsibilities of a 180° excavator operator and comply with current health and safety legislation
Identify the main components, controls, indicators, and safety features of a 180° excavator above 5 tonnes
Carry out pre-use inspections, routine maintenance checks, and accurately report defects before operation
Prepare the machine for safe travel and work activities, including correct start-up, positioning, and shutdown
Travel and manoeuvre the excavator safely across varying terrain, gradients, and confined work areas
Carry out excavation, grading, loading, and backfilling operations safely and accurately to the required specification
Select, fit, and remove the correct bucket or attachment for different excavation tasks
Identify workplace hazards, and implement appropriate control measures to maintain a safe working environment
Load materials safely into vehicles, hoppers, and designated locations while maintaining machine stability
Secure the machine at the end of operations, carrying out post-operational checks and preparing it safely for transport

If you do not achieve the theory or practical test, we will do our best to re-book at a reduced rate.

How long does the course take?

Novice 180 excavator training takes 5 days. This includes theory and practical training and testing.

How long is the CPCS card valid?

The CPCS Red Card is valid for 2 years. Once this expires, you can choose to upgrade to a CPCS Blue Card, valid 5 years.

Do you need a license to operate an excavator in the UK?

Having a CPCS Card can significantly increase your career opportunities. Most UK construction sites require operators to hold formal qualifications like CPCS.

How long Does a 180 excavator licence last?

This training course will qualify you for a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card, which is valid for 2 years.

Complete the NVQ and upgrade to a CPCS Blue Competent Operator Card, which is valid for 5 years.
