Course Description

CPCS Hoist Training gives you the skills and knowledge to safely operate hoists.

Choose between our Novice and Experienced courses, based on your current ability.

Pass the theory and practical tests to achieve a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

You must have passed the CITB Health and Safety Test within the last 2 years.

Activity Instructions

Complete pre-use static and visual checks with commentary.

Complete pre-use running checks and emergency procedures.

Place the hoist into service. Prepare exclusion zones.

Agree signal codes with the assigned signaller.

Check loads for integrity, security and suitability.

Determine a loading method and sequence with the assistant.

Prepare each load for loading activities.

Relay loading and emergency procedures to travelling personnel.

Place loads within the platform. Travel to and remove loads.

Place loads within the platform and travel to a different level.

Travel the platform to an out-of-service level and remove loads.

Place the hoist out-of-service and secure.

Do You Have to be Trained to Use a Hoist?

Yes – you will need appropriate training to operate hoists. We suggest CPCS training as it can significantly increase career opportunities. This is because most UK construction sites recognise the qualification.

How to Become a Hoist Driver?

This course will teach you the skills and knowledge needed to operate hoists – no experience necessary. This makes it ideal for beginners who want to become hoist operators.
