SMSTS Course

Course Description

SMSTS stands for the Site Management Safety Training Scheme. This is part of the CITB Site Safety Plus suite, which covers health, safety and environmental awareness.

The course was developed for site managers and is designed for those responsible for managing, monitoring, implementing, and reporting in a construction environment.

The SMSTS course is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all construction managers.

Learning Objectives

  • Manage and implement health, safety and environmental aspects on site within the context of a management role
  • Implement new guidance and industry best practice
  • Develop an understanding of responsibility and accountability for site health, safety, welfare and the environment
  • Recognise that a safe site is efficient, economical, productive and environmentally friendly

Course Duration

5 Days

Exact duration will depend on whether you complete the course in-person or online.

Mutiple-Choice

You will need to score at least 26 out of 32 marks.

Certificate Expiry

5 years

You will need to complete the refresher course before your certificate expires, or the full course will need to be retaken.

Frequently Asked Questions

SSSTS is a 2-day course designed for site supervisors, whereas SMSTS is a 5-day course designed for site managers. 

There are no entry requirements for the SMSTS course. However, you should hold or be about to hold the tole of a site manager.

No, the SMSTS course is not overly difficult. The course will teach you everything you need to know to pass.
