What is a CPCS Red Card?
Their CPCS Red Card is an entry-level qualification for those looking to start a career in plant operation. This demonstrates to employers that you are trained in how to operate a particular type of plant.
CPCS Red Cards are available in over 60 categories related to plant operation and related occupations.
How to Get a CPCS Red Card
1 – CITB Health, Safety, and Environment Test
First, you will need to complete the CITB Health, Safety, and Environment Test.
This is a multiple-choice test, which assesses your basic knowledge of construction health and safety. The test lasts for up to 45 minutes and requires a score of at least 45 out of 50 to pass.
Book the CITB Health, Safety, and Environment Test at our Wokingham Centre.
We suggest preparing for the test using the official app for Apple and Android.
2 – CPCS Course
Next, you will need to complete a CPCS course. This is designed to teach you the skills and knowledge needed to operate, which is then tested through theory and practical testing.
Theory Training & Testing
Theory training ensures you have neccessary technical knowledge. For example, lifting capacity, machine components, and safe working practises. This knowledge is then tested during a 1-to-1 verbal discussion with one of our assessors.
Practical Training & Testing
Practical training ensures you know how to operate safely. For example, manoeuvring through restrictions and preventing load swing. These skills are then tested through 1-to-1 observation of you completing a sequence of activities.
CPCS Red Card Renewal
CPCS Blue Cards are valid for 2 years from the date of testing.
Once your card expires, you will need to upgrade to a CPCS Blue Card.
This boosts you from a ‘Trained Operator’ to a ‘Competent Operator’ through completion of an NVQ.
