Health & Safety
Health and Safety Law states that employers must assess risks and decide what could harm you doing your job, then take the necessary precautions to stop it. In a way that you can understand, they must explain how risks will be controlled and give you the health and safety training you need to do your job.

A1 Group
The A1 Group’s recent investment in a brand new crusher is expected to increase the businesses operating efficiency by 25%. As a result, employees will be expected to work at a faster pace to keep up with the demands of this new machine – making health and safety in the workplace more significant than ever before. The A1 Group recognise the importance of upskilling their workforce to avoid complacency and the company were willing to go above-and-beyond the minimal legal requirements to ensure their employees make it home unscathed each day.

A Tailored Training Solution
BAM visited the A1 Group in Wokingham to assess the working conditions and operations taking place on-site. In such a fast paced working environment where employees, plant machinery and members of the public mix, it was vital that the course covered more than just basic plant operations to ensure the safety of all.

A bespoke in-house training programme was designed so that A1 employees were delivered relevant information, instruction and training on the forklifts used to transport scrap vehicles around the yard. As the business use specially designed long forks to lift and transport vehicles, BAM focused their training on loads, fork placements and awareness to make the training relevant. This was achieved through combining elements of the CPCS Forklift Course with BAMs assessment of working conditions and operations taking place on-site.

A1 employees were given information on different types of loads and taught how to safely position the forks so that they could lift different types of vehicles with the correct centre of balance each time. They were also instructed to consistently check their surroundings to ensure that they were safely operating away from colleagues and members of the public. The assessments and training were carried out by BAMs experienced and accredited trainers.
