Course Description

CPCS Telehandler Training is designed to help you become a qualified telehandler operator. Choose between our novice or experienced courses, based on your experience.

Pass the CPCS theory and practical tests and achieve your CPCS Red Trained Operator Card, valid for 2 years.

Eligibility Criteria

Before attending your telehandler training course, you must have passed the CITB Health and Safety Test for Operatives within the past 2 years. This can be completed at our Wokingham centre for £60+VAT.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the role & responsibilities of plant operators.
  • Name & explain the purpose of principal components.
  • Undertake pre-use checks and shut down procedures.
  • Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely laden and unladen during all activities.
  • Carry out lifting and load handling tasks.
  • Lift and transfer loads safely and accurately.
  • Fit, adjust and remove attachments.

Activity Instructions

Complete manufacturer pre-start and running checks. Prepare the excavator for travel.

Loaded: Travel up and down slopes, over rough terrain and pass through a chicane. Stop and restart on incline.

Prepare and set the telehandler for each lift. Remove the forks and fit an attachment.

High lift & retrieve load. Loading and unload lorry. Stack 3 loads vertically and de-stack.

Lift load and place at ground level at an indicated point using full reach of the telehandler.

Lift load and reverse in a straight line, passing through a restriction at the end of the run.

Carry out undercutting when lifting and placing a load. Configure the telehandler for travel.

Park the telehandler and carry out shut-down and securing procedures.
